Effective from today (1st April 2026) class 3 & 4 jacking beams now need to be a minimum Safe working load (SWL) of 2 Tonnes (2000kg) and have a span of a minimum of 1700mm between the lifting pad center’s.

this ruling applied to:

  • New applications for MOT sites
  • People replacing a jacking beam
  • Current MOT sites undergoing change of ownership

As this requirement has come into place considering the changes in vehicle design and size (EV’s and Hybrids) being heavier and wider to the jacking points,

We would suggest all MOT sites need to consider if their current jacking beam (and other MOT equipment) is still fit for purpose?

If you do not want to be turning away MOT work as it will not fit on your MOT equipment upgrade your equipment and stay current.
