CCS Garage Equipment has managed the successful relocation and installation of Specialist Fleet Services’ workshop at North Weald Airfield, Essex, creating a modern and spacious workshop to support our client’s operations on behalf of the local authority.
Specialist Fleet Services is currently delivering an 8-year contract to provide and maintain a new fleet of waste and recycling vehicles on behalf of Epping Forest District Council.
52 vehicles are maintained by SFS, including 26T refuse collection vehicles (RCVs), sweepers, tippers and vans. Based on a section of the North Weald Airfield site which makes up the council’s environmental operations hub, SFS has recently appointed CCS to relocate equipment from its former workshop to a new depot, adding much-needed capacity and creating more up-to-date facilities for the client’s vehicle maintenance teams.
This latest project for Specialist Fleet Services follows previous successful garage equipment installation projects, including the installation of a new depot for SFS at Boston, Lincolnshire following another contract award for the client for the maintenance of RCVs and related waste vehicles.
Located close to Epping and Harlow, the historic North Weald Airfield site, formerly an RAF fighter base which was instrumental during World War II and the Battle of Britain, offers plenty of room for the local authority’s environmental operations and services to grow. Now entering the second year of its contract, SFS has moved to a new depot building within the site’s environmental hub that consolidates environmental services and creates a workshop capable of supporting SFS throughout the remainder of its contract.
Workshop equipment was in good condition and was deinstalled, transported and reinstalled at the new depot building by CCS’ regional team in the South East.

A mobile commercial vehicle brake tester offers reliable brake testing in-house without the need for groundworks, enabling the equipment to be moved to alternative spaces within the workshop, or elsewhere, as required. CCS Garage Equipment relocated and reinstalled the brake tester at the North Weald Airfield workshop, testing this fully prior to commission to ensure accuracy and regulatory compliance.
Stertil Koni’s mobile column vehicle lifts are a great, versatile lifting option for a workshop such as this. Requiring no installation or permanent fixings, lifts are synchronised to lift vehicles across a wide range of sizes and weights. Mobile column lifts in this workshop will be used to lift Refuse Collection Vehicles, allowing for complete, all-round vehicle testing, servicing and maintenance.
