CCS Garage Equipment has recently completed a programme of workshop refurbishment for East Midlands Airport. Works to the workshop floor and operational planning has created a safe and efficient workshop to serve the Airport’s wide range of airside vehicles.
East Midlands Airport workshop refurb takes off! Workshop upgrades by CCS Garage Equipment
CCS Garage Equipment was recently appointed to support the refurbishment of the vehicle workshop at East Midlands Airport, part of the Manchester Airports Group.
Servicing and maintaining airside vehicles at the airport, the workshop carries a range of vehicle lifts, including versatile mobile column lifts, service bays and pits. Having experienced a busy period, including the airport’s role as a cargo hub during the pandemic, the workshop was tired with a floor in poor condition and in need of maintenance and repair.
A well-maintained floor is important in any vehicle workshop. Uneven or damaged workshop floor surfaces present hazards to your people including slips, trips and falls, and may not reflect the quality values your organisation is known for.
Giving confidence to your customers and wider business, quality workshop flooring – often delivered through epoxy resin systems – will preserve and protect your floor surface, provide a safe working environment for your vehicle workshop personnel, and efficient designs and use of colour may even enhance your operational performance.
Our refurbishment at East Midlands Airport commenced with a floor which, through use, had seen much of its previous coating eroded.
CCS worked with the workshop team to plan the refurbishment programme, ensuring as minimal disruption to the airport’s 24/7 operations as possible, and devised a floor design which created a safe and much-improved working area for workshop engineers. Our work was undertaken over 2 phases, starting with the main workshop area in phase 1.
Our vehicle workshop design included a guided walkway area around the workshop’s service bays, indicated using bright colours. Potential hazard areas, such as the perimeters of service bays, the Class IV, V & VII ATL, lifting equipment and moving parts, were demarked using easily-recognisable yellow and black epoxy resin, creating a smart, professional and safe layout which greatly enhanced the workshop’s overall appearance.
Key areas were treated with anti-slip coatings, creating a hardwearing floor and working surface which will last for years. We particularly focused on using anti-slip flooring around service bays, pits and lifts, and on coloured walkways through the workshop.
Following completion of phase 1 in the main vehicle workshop, our CCS Garage Equipment team was then commissioned to undertake similar work in a subsidiary workshop which serves larger airport vehicles such as firefighting units.
Again, the workshop floor was uncoated and in need of refurbishment to increase safety, visibility and overall appearance. CCS worked with our client’s workshop and vehicle maintenance management team to implement a design which met this brief, protecting the pit working area and again creating safe walkways for engineers.
CCS Garage Equipment is appointed by Manchester Airports Group to maintain and service the East Midlands Airport airside vehicle workshop, regularly servicing, testing and examining vehicle lifts and other garage equipment to keep all facilities in good and safe working order.
Together with our routine, scheduled programme of maintenance, servicing, testing and examination, CCS Garage Equipment also handles equipment supply for the MAG workshops. As part of our recent East Midlands Airport programme, our team suplied a fully-automated workshop press, which is user-friendly and more efficient than the workshop’s previous model.
CCS enjoys excellent, hands-on experience of garage equipment projects for airports and the aviation sector. Established relationships with airport operators complement wide-ranging skills which supports the safe and specialist maintenance of airport vehicles, including the design and installation of bespoke lifting equipment and pit tailored to unique needs of aviation and airside vehicles.
